Garrett, Verna May

Verna May Garrett, 92, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, at Crestview Nursing Home in Marion. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. The Rev. Carroll Brown will officiate. Friends may visit at the chapel after 12:30 p.m. Friday. Inurnment will take place at Goldenrod Cemetery, Deep River, Iowa.

Surviving are her grandsons, Rick Garrett of Cedar Rapids, and Ron Garrett of Center Point.

She is also survived by her great-granddaughters, Jessica and Tia Garrett, as well as extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarence; her son, James Garrett; two great-grandsons, Michael and Eric; two sisters; and one brother.

Verna was born May 19, 1919, in Montezuma, the daughter of Ralph and Ethel (Hannon) Stevens. She was united in marriage to Clarence U. Garrett on June 19, 1937 in Galena, Ill. He preceded her in death in 1961.

Verna enjoyed flowers, making stuffed animals for children and time with her family.
