Garrett Ronald Farr, 17, of Swisher, Iowa, lost his battle with depression on Friday, Sept. 22, 2017. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, at Shueyville United Methodist Church in Shueyville, with visitation one hour before the service.
Garrett was born Nov. 12, 1999, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Mike Farr and Deb Ferguson. He was a senior at Prairie High School in Cedar Rapids. Garrett worked for Dostal Developers and the Cedar Rapids Kernels during summer breaks. During his years at Prairie, Garrett participated in activities such as cross country, wrestling, soccer, marching band, show choir and going to high school football games.
Garrett also enjoyed hunting, fishing, video games, his pets and anything that had to do with baseball. He was involved with the youth group at Shueyville United Methodist Church and was active with Summer Games University. People will miss his quick wit and unique, sarcastic sense of humor.
He is survived by his parents, Mike Farr (Kaytie Hill) of Swisher and Deb (Randy) Ferguson, also of Swisher; brother, Brandon Michael Farr of Swisher; sister, Miranda Corinne Farr of Swisher; stepsisters, Krista Kay (Claus) Westphal of Vienna, Austria, and Hannah Lyn Ferguson of Snoqualmie, Wash., grandparents, Joanne Louise Farr of Wellington, Ohio, and Ronald and Linda Hunt of Vermillion, Ohio; stepgrandmother, Addalene Ferguson of Ackworth, Iowa; aunts and uncles, Jeannie (Dan) Rosecrans of Wellington, Kurt Farr of Wellington, Tracy (Mike) Worcester of Cedar Park, Texas, Rhonda Rexroad (Bob Freed) of Norwalk, Ohio, Debbie (Randy) Kain of Carlisle, Iowa, and Donna (Doug) Wilhoit of Altoona, Iowa; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Dwight Delos Farr; and stepgrandfather, Donald Ferguson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation or Foundation 2 in Cedar Rapids.
