Garold Thomas "Tom" Ayers, 87, of Marion, formerly of Robinson, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at Linn Manor Care Center in Marion following a recent illness. Visitation: 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 11, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion with the funeral service beginning at 11 a.m., by Pastor Sheri Andersen. Burial: Coggon Cemetery, Coggon.
Tom is survived by his sisters, June Emerson of Marion and Dorothy (Bill) Woods of Cody, Wyo.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Virginia and Waneitta.
Tom was born Jan. 31, 1930, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Harold and Gheula (Coakley) Ayers. Tom was a lifelong bachelor. He worked at various farms and businesses, mostly in Delaware County. Tom loved to play cards and work difficult puzzles; he was great with numbers. Tom loved old tractors and owned a few. He had a great memory and served as the resident Ayers family historian.
