Garnant, Barbara
CEDAR RAPIDS - Barbara Garnant passed away Oct. 5, 2010, at 88 years of age, after a very long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Services: 1 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 tonight.
She was the daughter of Clara Schminke Clay and John Amos Clay of Marion and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Barbara graduated from Franklin High School and from Coe College, where she became a lifelong member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority.
Barbara had been an active member of the Peoples Church for many years. Her interests included a passion for music and for genealogy research. She passed her enthusiasm for music onto her children and grandchildren. Her genealogy research took her on many paths the family traveled.
Barbara was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Jacquelin Clay Montgomery of Wauwatosa, Wis.; and her husband of 63 years, Raymond H. Garnant.
She is survived by her children, Chrys Garnant of Middletown, N.J., and Monte Garnant of Burnsville, Minn.; grandchildren, Sarah Garnant Whitney of Apple Valley, Minn., Lara Garnant of Middletown, N.J., Andrea Garnant of Des Moines and Brian Garnant of Bloomington, Minn.; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Ada and Josiah Whitney of Apple Valley, Minn.; her brother-in-law, Maurice Garnant and wife Rachel Garnant of rural Cedar Rapids; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Remembrances may be made in her name to the Cedar Rapids Symphony/Orchestra Iowa.
