Garland, Larry Dean
Larry Dean Garland, 74, of 220 Cambridge Dr. NE, Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at Bickford Cottage in Marion following a courageous battle with cancer. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, at King of Kings Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Mark Halvorson. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, and one hour before the service at the church on Thursday. Graveside service: 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16, at North Lawn Cemetery, Iowa Falls.
Survivors include his wife, E. Jaye of Marion; his son, Loran (Andrea) Garland of Cedar Rapids; his daughter, Tracy (fiance Thomas Wyckoff) Garland of Cedar Rapids; and three grandchildren, Jackson, Wesner and Mari Lissa.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Larry was born April 10, 1935, the son of Walter and Leila (Neimeyer) Garland, in Readlyn, Iowa. He graduated from Iowa Falls High School and Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Larry married E. Jaye Erlanson on April 21, 1963, in Iowa Falls. He completed the Iowa Electric Lineman's Apprenticeship and was employed there for 38 years, retiring in 1987. He then served as an independent consultant for Iowa Electric until 1989. Larry was a charter member of King of Kings Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Larry's memory.
