Gallagher, Richard Albert
Richard Albert Gallagher, 67, of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully Monday, Aug. 5, 2013, with his sister and brother-in-law by his side, after a two-year battle with cancer. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m., at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include his mother, Evelyn Gallagher of Cedar Rapids; his sister, Sharon (Gary) Wade of Ames; his niece, Kira (Eric) Houge; and great-niece, Chloe Houge, all of Tallahassee, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his father, Russell Gallagher; and grandparents, Albert and Hazel Triebel and Ralph and Vivian Griffith.
Dick was born Jan. 5, 1946, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Russell and Evelyn Triebel Gallagher. He retired from ACT as a tester. Dick graduated from Jefferson High School in 1964 and Upper Iowa University in 1968. Dick coached and officiated in Little League Teams, high school and college wrestling and was wrestling captain in college. He was involved in El Kahir Shrine, Ambar Grotto, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, Past Master of Bruce Lodge, where he was secretary for many years, High Twelve, DeMolay and DeMolay Advisor. Dick received two honors, Cross of Honor by DeMolay-International to DeMolay Advisors, who have shown wisdom, patience and love for the betterment of young men so they can become better men and Legion of Honor for DeMolay. Dick loved sports and especially college sports. He enjoyed playing “Words” with his friends, his iPad and anything that his niece was involved in.
