Gallagher, Emma Frances
Emma Frances Gallagher, 98, of Hamburg, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, April 4, 2013, at George C. Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg following a short illness. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ludmila Catholic Church, by Father Dennis Juhl. Burial: St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Papich-Kuba Janeba Chapel West, 1604 J St. SW, and after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Emma is survived by two sons, Dr. Michael J. Gallagher of Hamburg and William N. Gallagher and wife Moria of Hugo, Minn.; and two grandchildren, Moreen Roe and husband Lee, Maplewood, Minn., and Liam Gallagher of Hugo, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hulbert “Mike” Gallagher; parents, Alois and Mary (Bousek) Dunek; stepmother, Sophia (Shimek) Dunek; and five brothers, Joseph, Frank, Louis, George and Charlie Dunek.
Emma was born March 14, 1915, in Cedar Rapids, and was a lifelong resident until moving with her husband to Hamburg following the flood of June 2008. She married Hulbert M. “Mike” Gallagher on Oct. 25, 1941, in Kahoka, Mo. He died Feb. 8, 2009. Emma was employed for many years as a printer at Souvenir Pen and Pencil Co. until her retirement.
Emma was a member of St. Ludmila Catholic Church.
A memorial fund has been established.
