Galen H. Ihns, 66, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017.
Galen was born Sept. 28, 1950, in Maquoketa, Iowa, and raised on a farm near Lost Nation. He attended the University of Iowa, receiving a degree in finance. His career began with Federal Land Bank, first in Iowa City and then Omaha. In 1979, he joined Hewlett Packard in Colorado Springs, Colo., where he remained for over 20 years. After several successful years in real estate, Galen retired to provide daycare for his granddaughter, Minami. He and his wife moved to Longmont, Colo., in 2014.
Galen will be missed by his wife, Susan Moyer Ihns; his daughter, Kathryn Ihns Ohnaka; his son-in-law, Akihiko Ohnaka; and his beloved granddaughters, Minami and Ayana, all of Longmont. He also is survived by his brother, Warren Ihns.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Rochelle Ihns Gooding.
He will be remembered by his friends and loved ones for his devotion to his family, his marvelous sense of humor and his great smile.
