Gail M. Bartholomew, 78, of rural Iowa City, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2022, at The Bird House-Hospice Home of Johnson County.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, where there will be a time of visitation one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow the services at the Welsh Pioneer Cemetery, near Sharon Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Gail's memory to The Bird House-Hospice Home
of Johnson County or Iowa City Hospice.
Gail Marie Goddard was born Feb. 10, 1943, in Akron, Ohio, the daughter of Dwight F. and Olga M. (Brengard) Goddard. She grew up in Memphis, Tenn., and moved to Iowa City in 1959. She graduated with the Class of 1961 from City High School. She then attended the University of Iowa. On April 4, 1964, she was united in marriage to John Keith Bartholomew here in Iowa City. She worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Co., First National Bank and, for many years, she worked as the office manager of the Federal Employees Credit Union. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, a Camp Fire Leader and Sunday school teacher when her daughter was younger, volunteer at the Iowa Juvenile Home for Girls in Toledo and was a member of the Friends of the North Liberty Library. Gail enjoyed doing crafts and working in her gardens over the years.
Her family includes her husband, John; daughter, Julie; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two half-brothers, Dr. C.R. "Chet" Goddard and Lowell W. Goddard.
