Gail Carpenter
GAIL HELENE (WOELLERT) CARPENTER
Manchester
Gail Helene (Woellert) Carpenter, 97, of Manchester, passed away Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester.
She was born on a farm northeast of Dundee on Dec. 27, 1920, the only child of proud parents Walter and Anna (Boehm) Lehman. When she was 2 1/2, her parents purchased the adjoining farm, where Gail grew up. She loved riding her bicycle, meeting her friends at nearby Forestville Beach, picnicking at Backbone State Park, dancing, playing the clarinet in band and cheerleading. Gail graduated from Dundee High School in 1938.
On Sept. 1, 1940, Gail was united in marriage to Harold G. Woellert at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. During the following years, they lived on and worked the family farm, where they raised three children, Lynn, Larry and Kathy. They spent many pleasant hours with family and friends. Harold passed away suddenly in August 1974. Gail then married Leland "Lee" Carpenter in 1979. They enjoyed several years of traveling together and continued to live on their farm. Lee passed away in 1994, and in 1999, Gail relocated to Manchester.
Gail was always very social and loved the outdoors. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan. She will be sorely missed.
Survivors include her daughter, Kathy Ganske of Nashville, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Tammie (Scott) Brady of Cedar Rapids, Tracie (Brian) Hazelett of Raleigh, N.C., Scott (Stacy) Woellert of Manchester, Jennifer (Renee Hamilton) Woellert of Davenport and Tiffany (Brad) Lott of Manchester; eight great-grandchildren, Stephanie and Rachel Brady, Logan, Jaxson, Paige and Mavrick Woellert and Maddox and Griffin Lott; and daughters-in-law, Lynn Woellert of Strawberry Point and Joyce Woellert of Manchester.
Gail was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Harold Woellert and Leland Carpenter; and her sons, Lynn Woellert and Larry Woellert.
