Gail Y. Bennett, 78, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, May 16, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center after a brief illness. Services: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church. The Rev. Perry Fruhling will officiate. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Survivors include a son, Paul of St. Francis, Minn.; a daughter, Lori (Lee) Scank of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, Bryant (Gerdes) Ulseth of Moorhead, Minn., and Roger (Donna) Ulseth of Crookston, Minn.; and a grandson, Christopher Scank.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren.
Gail was born Feb. 25, 1936, in Crookston, Minn., the daughter of Clarence and Evelyn Broden Ulseth. She graduated from Concordia College in 1957, with a degree in education. Gail married Warren K. Bennett on Dec. 26, 1956, in Crookston. Warren passed away in 1992.
Gail was an elementary reading teacher of over 35 years. She taught at both Hoover and Polk elementary schools, retiring in 1999. She was a faithful member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church as well as a member of its choir.
Gail enjoyed playing bridge, sewing, baking, cooking and travel. Her greatest joy was her beloved family and friends.
Gail's memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
Memorial donations may be given to St. Mark's Lutheran Church Foundation.
