G. LUCILLE STOCKMAN

G. Lucille Stockman, 91, of Oxford, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014, at Briarwood Care Healthcare Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Oxford, with Father Edmond Dunn officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, and after noon at the church. A rosary will be recited at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Essence of Life Hospice or Briarwood Healthcare Center.
Lucille was born June 29, 1923, in Belle Plaine, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Cora Koser Allen. She graduated from Oxford High School in 1941. On Oct. 4, 1945, Lucille married S.J. "Wimpy" Stockman.
They were lifelong residents of Oxford. While raising their family, Lucille worked at Oxford's two grocery stores, Nunn's and Fitkin's. She baked and decorated wedding cakes, and with Adelaide Cochran, she worked at the Iowa City Sales Barn lunch counter.
Lucille painted and wallpapered area homes and catered numerous wedding receptions. She enjoyed gardening, canning fruits and vegetables and playing pinochle with other Oxford couples.
Lucille worked at the University of Iowa housekeeping department until her retirement in 1985.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary, National Catholic Society of Foresters and the Oxford Nemora Club.
The family extends special thanks to the staff of Briarwood Healthcare Center and Essence of Life Hospice for their care and support.
Survivors include her children, Richard (Sandy) Stockman and Gerald "Bub" (Kate) Stockman, both of Oxford, Cherlyn Ahrens of Iowa City, Earlis (Kathleen) Stockman of Oxford, Marlene (Richard) Everhart of Centennial, Colo., and Debera Stockman of Oxford; eight grandchildren, Sheila Stockman, Kim (Greg) Wagner, Angela (Ed) Conard, Brenda (Terry) Davis, Brad (Beth) Stockman, Andy (Christina) Stockman, Jeff Goodwin and Joel (Frances) Stockman; and nine great-grandchildren.
Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and siblings, Warren Allen, Lois Johnson and Wilma Kinney.
