Furlong, Kevin
Kevin Furlong of the Tellico Village community, Tennessee, passed away peacefully into God's arms at his home on April 20, 2012. His loving and devoted wife, Barbara, was with him. He died from complications of Alzheimer's disease.
Kevin was born in Detroit, Mich., on Nov. 23, 1936.
Kevin is survived by his wife, Barbara; the daughter of his heart, Melissa, and her husband, Emmett; and his greatest joy was his 10-year-old grandson, Bryce.
Kevin was a graduate of the University of Iowa. He lettered at Iowa both in football and baseball. He played halfback on the Iowa 1956 and 1958 Rose Bowl championship teams. Iowa won two out of three Big Ten championships. He was a proud member of Signa Alpha Epsilon fraternity being elected to its All-American team.
He began his career at Amana and went on to hold various senior executive positions in the home appliance/consumer electronics industry. He was widely respected and was known for treating everyone with fairness and respect.
Kevin had a great love of music and a beautiful voice. We know God and the angels are enjoying hearing his songs.
What truly defined Kevin was his gift of making and nurturing lifelong friendships. He will forever be remembered for his zest for life, ready wit and wonderful smile.
Barbara can never begin to thank the countless friends who helped her as she and Kevin made this difficult journey together. Please wish Kevin Godspeed.
Please make memorial contributions to: Kids First Child Advocacy Center, 9th Judicial District.
