Furler, Selma C.
Selma C. Furler, 85, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, at Northbrook Manor. Services: 1 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Jonathan Offt. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel after noon Thursday at the chapel.
She is survived by her sister, Martha Cohrt of Vinton; and sisters-in-law, lrene Furler of Newhall, and Loretta Furler of Marengo; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Bob and Geri Slaybaugh and their family, JoAnn Remington and Ida Lou Jilek.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Arnold, Albert, Ernest and Edwin; and sisters, Lydia Mitchel, Marie McVay and Louise Edgerly.
Selma was born on March 19, 1925, in Amberg, Wis., to Fritz and Ida Walters Furler. The family returned to Iowa and Selma was raised in the Williamsburg/Blairstown area. Through her adult life, she helped care for her parents when she was needed. She worked at Killians Department Store Tea Room, the Armstrong's Department Store Tea Room and retired after 24 years from Quaker Oats.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids.
