Funke, Louis William

Louis William Funke, 83, of 1111 K Ave. NW, died Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Monday at St. Jude Catholic Church, by the Rev. Don Hertges. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. A vigil service will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home, where friends may visit from 2 to 6 p.m. Friends may also visit Monday after 9 a.m. at the church.

Louis is survived his wife, Virginia; seven children, William (Vicki) of Bryon, Ill., Anthony (Janet) of Delano, Minn., Paul (Kerry) of Norwalk, Barbara Funke of Monticello, Gerald (Lori) of Battle Creek, Mich., Donald (Kimberly) of Clinton and David (Connie) of Jesup; 14 grandchildren, Jill, Greg, Nicole, Andrew, Daniel, Holly, Tina, Kevin, Ben, Michael, Eli, Kyleigh, Aaron, and Cassie; one great-granddaughter, Virginia; and one brother, Leo Funke of Decorah.

Louis was preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher.

Louis was born Aug. 1, 1926, in Calmar, the son of Leo John and Adelinda Huber Funke. He was a machinist at Pennick and Ford and Universal.

Louis enjoyed playing cards, sports, racing, watching football and basketball, and fishing.
