Funk, Mary Jane
Mary Jane Funk, 85, of Garnavillo, died Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at the Guttenberg Care Center. Arrangements are with Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 001 South Industrial Park Rd., Garnavillo, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. today. A committal service will be held at 7 tonight at the Garnavillo Community Cemetery.
Mary Jane was born July 15, 1925, in Farmersburg, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Hafke. After graduating from high school, she was united in marriage with LaVerne Funk in 1942. Three children were born to this union.
For many years, Mary Jane farmed with her husband. She also worked at Raizes Department Store in Elkader and then Ben Franklin in Elkader. In her later years she enjoyed tending bar at Vaughan's and always made sure everyone had a good time.
Mary Jane is survived by two children, Karen Vaughan and David (Marlisle) Funk; 10 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Al Funk; one son-in-law, Jim Vaughan; one sister, Alma Dalzell; and one brother, Paul Hafke.
