Fry, Helen
Helen Fry, 90, of Iowa City, died Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at Pleasantview Home in Kalona. A memorial service to celebrate Helen's life will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 3, at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, with the Rev. John McKinstry officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens. The family will greet friends after 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. A luncheon will follow at The Kirkwood Room which is adjacent to the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or First Christian Church.
Helen was born April 17, 1919, in Alberta, Canada, the daughter of Metro and Kate (Chornohus) Alexanderuk. On Aug. 5, 1955, she married Arlo Fry in Rock Island, Ill. Helen worked for The University of Iowa Department of Pediatrics Metabolism Ward for over 20 years as a clerk, retiring in 1982.
She was an avid shuffle boarder and also loved to cook, garden and spend time with her family.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to Dr. Rod Zeitler, Dr. Nyle Kauffman and to the staff at Pleasantview Home in Kalona for their care and support. The family would also like to express their sincere thanks to the staff at the Legacy Retirement Community.
Helen is survived by her three children, Wayne (Vicky) Fry, and their children, Charlotte and Nicole, all of Washington, Iowa, Marjorie (Caz) Kotowski, and her children, Jana (Brent) Teal and John (Ashley) Lillis, all of Denver, Colo., and Allen Fry, and his children, Sara (Dave) Anderson and Christopher (Beth) Fry, all of Iowa City; and one great–grandson, Rowa Henry Anderson.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Arlo; her parents; and her two brothers, Harry Alexanderuk and George Alexanderuk.
