Froehle, Donald A.
Donald A. Froehle, 83, of 2135 1st Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Aug. 30, 2009, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, following a sudden illness. Services:
10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Pius X Church in Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with wake service at 5:30 p.m., at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his children, Rebecca (Larry) Soukup of Agra, Okla., and Michael (Ronda) Froehle of Cedar Falls; four grandchildren, John (Molly) Soukup of Agra, Okla., James Soukup of Agra, Okla., Timothy Froehle of Iowa City, and Angela (Adam) Bates of University Park; four great-grandchildren, Asher, John, Ryder and Livia; and two brothers, Gerald (Eleanor) Froehle of Ankeny and Robert (Jan) Froehle of Iowa City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Retha; his siblings, Maurice Froehle, Helen Elsbecker, Dennis Froehle, Richard Froehle and Gordon Froehle, who died in infancy.
Donald was born Aug. 28, 1926, the son of Frank and Alvina (Fangman) Froehle, in Bancroft. He graduated from St. John's High School of Bancroft in 1944, Upper Iowa University in 1951, and received his master's degree from Mankato State. Don married Retha I. Brown on Aug. 14, 1951, in Waseca, Minn. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Don then worked as a Sales Representative for Life Investors, retiring after 35 years. He was a member of the American Legion and a member of the V.F.W.
