Fritz Kurt Tuchel, 75, of Cocoa, Fla., passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at his home from medical conditions.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Johannes and Gertrud Tuchel.
Fritz was born June 18, 1939, in Stargard, Germany. He grew up in Germany before immi-grating to the United States as a very young man.
He graduated from Coe College and retired from Rockwell Collins.
Fritz proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1964. While in the service Fritz was stationed in Germany to assist as liaison with personnel in communications.
On July 17, 1971, he married the love of his life, Kathleen "Kathy" Mueller of Dubuque, Iowa.
Fritz is survived by his wife, Kathy, of Cocoa, Fla.; and their two sons, Joseph Tuchel (Michelle) of West Des Moines and Peter Tuchel (Amanda) of Cedar Rapids. Fritz also is lovingly survived by his three grandchildren, Ava, Maxwell and Charlie of Cedar Rapids; his brother, Gunter Tuchel (Carole) of Marion; his sister, Holly Williamson (Richard) of Burlington; and a close family friend, Christel Johnson of Dallas, Texas.
Fritz was a proud employee of Rockwell Collins starting after his days in the Army. He was well respected and highly regarded in his work. Fritz enjoyed recalling and sharing all of his memorable experiences through the years at Rockwell Collins.
Fritz enjoyed boating and any activities around water. Fritz and his family enjoyed the Ellis Boat Harbor community, the Miss-issippi River, the Florida Keys and Cocoa Beach. Gatherings with family and friends, traveling and camping played a major role in the Tuchel family's leisure time. Numerous lasting friendships were established during these activities. Fritz was known to easily make friends with everyone he met, and valued his relationships with family, friends, and colleagues.
Fritz was an accomplished reader, historian, and a skilled story teller. Fritz's intelligence captured your attention. Fritz will be remembered most as a great husband, father and role model.
A private family service will be at a future date.
