Frieda Reinier, 91, of Urbandale, formerly of Tama, died Monday, March 16, 2015, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 21, at St. John's Catholic Church in Adel, where the family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday before the service. Private inurnment will be at Scranton Cemetery.
Frieda was born Jan. 12, 1924, on the family farm near Scranton, Iowa, to Fred and Barbara (Kult) Reil. She was raised in Scranton and Bayard, graduated from Bayard High School, and married Harold Reinier on Nov. 4, 1942. For 61 years, they made their home in Tama/Toledo, where they raised their family. Frieda worked at Coast to Coast Hardware in Toledo, the cafeteria at STC High School and later at Novotny Lumber Yard.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Tama, where she also was in the C.C.W. In December 2013, Frieda moved to Urbandale to be near her daughter and son-in-law. She enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. Frieda was very fond of pink roses, especially the rose bush at her home in Tama. She liked going out to eat with family and friends. Frieda enjoyed feeding the birds. She enjoyed visiting with her special neighbor, Judy, from Tama. Frieda loved making cinnamon rolls for friends.
Frieda is survived by her daughter, Rebecca (Charles) Fuhrman of Adel; brother, Robert (Joann) Reil of Guthrie Center; her grandchildren, MSgt USAF (ret) Clint D. (Elena) Reinier of O'Fallon, Ill., Kirk W. (Lisa) Reinier of Grinnell and Katie (Andy) Van Alstine of Lynchburg, Va.; great-grandchildren, Jacob Reinier, Clayton Reinier, Emily Kriegel, Jacob Shepard, Levi Reinier, Tim Van Alstine, Tanner Van Alstine and Christian Van Alstine; great-great-granddaughter, Kinzey Kriegel; daughter-in-law, Vickie Reinier of Mitchellville; several brothers- and sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Harold; her children, David Reinier and Mary Reinier; her sisters, Anna, Frances and Ruth; and her nephew, James Goodwin.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John's Catholic Church building fund.
