Freese, Kathryn
Kathryn Freese, 83, of Monticello, died Tuesday evening, May 17, 2011, at Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade, following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 21, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, where friends may call after 10 a.m. The Rev. LaVerne Beener will officiate at the services.
Surviving are three daughters, Nancy (Mike) Bickford and Renee Walshire, both of Anamosa, and Diane (Jerry) Husmann, Edgewater, Fla.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray in 1995; four brothers, Earl, Ronald, Richard and Merle Anderson; a sister, Marjorie Wilson; and a grandson-in-law, Michael Meade.
Kathryn M. Anderson was born Oct. 2, 1927, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of George and Lottie (Kirchner) Anderson. She received her education in the Cedar Rapids, Anamosa and Onslow schools. Kathryn then went to work at Killian's in Cedar Rapids. Kathryn Anderson and Raymond Freese were married April 14, 1947, at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, rural Monticello. The couple lived in Amber and Anamosa before moving to Monticello in 1953. Kathryn was employed at the Amber Creamery, Collins Radio and HACAP. She was the Monticello registrar for Jones County for many years. She also worked for Jones County Human Services and St. Luke's Outreach in the 1980s. When her girls were young Kathryn had been active in Blue Birds and Camp Fire. Her health resulted in her move to the care center in January 2011.
