Freese, Irene Viola Yohe
Irene Viola Yohe Freese completed her baptismal journey Feb. 27, 2012, at the Guttenberg Care Center. Irene was born June 11, 1915, to George and Elsie (Luther) Yohe at Gordons Ferry, Iowa. She was baptized into the Christian faith on July 18, 1915. She remained faithful to the Lutheran Church and its teachings, “Saved by Faith.”
Irene received her education in the Clayton schools. She was united in marriage to Henry Freese on Sept. 14, 1933. To this union four children were born. Irene enjoyed farming with her husband, teaching Sunday school, caring for grandchildren, keeping in touch with nieces and nephews, baby-sitting for friends and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
Survivors include two daughters, Paula (Serge) Sisler and Joann Tackman; daughter-in-law, Susan Freese; grandchildren, Serge Sisler II (Gail), Sharm (ReDawn) Sisler, Staci Sisler (fiance Ford Thompson), Cathryn (Bradley) Wright, Crista (Monte) Byrom, Jonathan Entner, and Pamela Mitchell (Al Quandahl); great-grandchildren, Kaeden and Conner Sisler, Nicole (Reggie) Schulte, Lindsey (Paul) Deason, Loren Mitchell, Joshua and Gabriel Wright, Megan and Samuel Byrom; great-great-grandchildren, Reid, Claire and Jakob Schulte; brother, Don (Mary) Yohe; and many nieces and nephews.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry; two sons, Richard and Roger; son-in-law, Ervin Tackman; three sisters; and three brothers.
Arrangements are being handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 001 S. Industrial Park Rd., Garnavillo, IA. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2012, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Peace in Clayton, Iowa. Memorial service will be at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Peace in Clayton, Iowa, at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2012, with the Rev. Hillary Burns-Kite officiating. Inurnment will be at the Clayton Cemetery in Clayton, Iowa. A luncheon will follow the inurnment at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Garnavillo, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred and may be sent to either the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Peace in Clayton, the Guttenberg Care Center, or a charity of your choice.
