Frasher Sr., Robert F.
Robert F. Frasher Sr., 89, of Guttenberg, formerly of Worthington, died Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, at the Guttenberg Care Center. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, at Worthington Memorial Hall, Worthington, where Scherrman-Peterson American Legion Post 656 will hold a prayer service at 1:45 p.m. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. Burial will immediately follow at St. Paul Cemetery, Worthington, where military honors will be accorded by Scherrman-Peterson American Legion Post 656. The Rev. Keith Amunson will officiate.
Bob was born Nov. 17, 1921, in Anamosa, Iowa, the son of Edward and Angelina (McGovern) Frasher. He married Viola Dehner on May 15, 1946, in Dubuque. Early in their marriage they made their home in Worthington, where for several years they operated Bob and Vi's Tavern. He was employed at John Deere Dubuque Works until retirement in 1983.
Bob served his country in the Army Air Corps in the 2nd Photomapping Squadron from 1941-1945 and was a life member of Scherrman Peterson American Legion Post 656.
Survivors include his three sons, Bob (Sally) of Epworth and Philip (Darlene) and Patrick (Sue Ann), both of Worthington; three daughters, Janine Frasher (life partner, Gary Trimble) of Polk City, Joan (Jack) Drees of Colesburg and Janet Frasher of Wheaton, Ill.; 20 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Rita (Joseph) Beck and Margaret Ann (Bernie) Ernzen, both of Dubuque, and Helen Dehner of Alton, Iowa; and a brother-in-law, George (Bernadine) Dehner of Clinton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Viola in 2008; son, Gary in 1970 during the Vietnam War; sister, Margaret Ann (Lawrence) Otten; brother, “Barney” Edward (Marguerite) Frasher; and in-laws, Irene (Francis) Till, Mary (Walter) Knepper, Dorothy (Robert) Cool and Florence Dehner (in infancy), and Edward Dehner.
