Frantz, Ruby Mary
Ruby Mary Frantz, 100, of Palo, died Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at Rock Ridge Care Center, Shellsburg. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Palo United Methodist Church by Pastor John Howerton. Burial: Palo Cemetery. Friends may visit from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Teahen Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Ruby is survived by one son, Floyd (Lillian) Frantz of Palo; one daughter, Yvonne (Jack) Burkhart of Vinton; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred, who died in 1992; and three brothers.
Ruby was born Oct. 9, 1909, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Christian and Maude Coulter Little. She graduated from Palo High School in 1928 and the Paris Academy Beauty School in 1930. Ruby married Alfred Frantz on March 10, 1931, at her parents home in rural Palo. She was a longtime member of Palo United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women.
Ruby enjoyed painting pictures, doing leather work, baking, playing cards, the accordion and the piano and loved to play in the Kitchen Clatter Band. She will be remembered for her great sense of humor.
