Franklin William Egan, 81, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2021, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends and family from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. A Funeral Liturgy will follow at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home, conducted by Deacon John Winkel. Private committal services will take place at a later date.
Franklin was born on Feb. 20, 1940, in Chicago, Ill. He worked as a farmer most of his life. Franklin also worked at Farmstead Meat Packing, also known as Wilson's Meat Plant, for nearly 30 years, until the plant closed. He was a member of the original Fraternal Order of the Eagles Club. Franklin was an avid bowler and bowled in various leagues in Cedar Rapids. He also enjoyed going for car rides, fishing and being outdoors. Franklin will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Franklin is survived and lovingly remembered by his three children, Charles (Jolene) Egan of Las Vegas, Nev., David (Tasha) Egan of Marion, Iowa, and Lisa Egan of Cedar Rapids; two stepsons, Jeffrey McMains of Blairstown, Iowa, and Scott (Darcy) McMains of Elberon, Iowa; five grandchildren, Ashley, Brad, Kara, Emma and Golyfe; one great-grandchild; one brother, Tom (Kathy) Egan of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters, Janet Meyer of Alexander, Iowa, and Betty Ryan of Evansdale, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family members and friends, including Krystal and Maliyah Tawil.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Jeanette (Flannagan) Egan; one daughter, Angela Egan; one son, Robert Egan; one sister, Edith Keilholtz; one brother, Larry Newcomb; and his special loving companion, Amy Nadine Leonard.
