Franklin, Vaughn R.

Vaughn R. Franklin, 64, died Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids following a sudden illness. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, March 12, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 East Sixth St., Vinton, with Pastor Jim Blair officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until service time. Private committal services will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Shellsburg.

Vaughn was born Dec. 29, 1946, in Vinton, to John N. and Esther (Baum) Franklin. As a youngster he excelled at baseball and basketball. Vaughn loved rodeos and horses and enjoyed fishing and bowling.

He is survived by his brothers, Wayne Franklin of Grand Island, Neb., and John “Jack” (Eleanor) Franklin of Sidney, Mont.; his sister, Carol (Robert) Lutz of Vinton; his nieces and nephews, Randy (Deb) Franklin, Tami (Jay) Harders, Greg Franklin, Brad (Nicole) Franklin, Ron (Deb) Lutz and Melissa “Lisa” (Kevin) Crookshanks; and six great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister-in-law, Berta Franklin; and his nephew, Kevin Franklin.

A memorial fund has been established for Cedar Valley Ranch.
