Franklin Lloyd Conrad of Marion, Iowa, formerly of Cedar Rapids, quietly passed away on Sept. 25, 2023, at Westridge Care Center, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was 85. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time, 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023, at Salem United Methodist Church. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids are in charge of arrangements.
Frank was born in Cedar Rapids on March 22, 1938, to Donald W. and Grace E. (Kirby) Conrad. Mother Grace died in April of 1941. Don remarried, this time to Leone Edgerly, on Aug. 15, 1942. With Don, Leone raised Franklin as her own, and settling in rural Central City, Frank grew up and attended Central City High School, graduating in 1955.
Frank married Patricia Ann Novak on June 6, 1959, and remained her devoted husband until his passing.
Starting his career at Collins Radio in 1955, Frank joined the Navy in 1956, where he was assigned to the USS Yorktown. Returning full-time to Collins after his time in the Navy, and while raising a family with Patty, Frank pursued a bachelor’s degree in history from Mt. Mercy College, graduating Cum Laude.
Frank retired as a Senior Buyer at Rockwell-Collins in 1994 after 40 years of service.
A life-long member of Salem United Methodist Church, Frank lived his faith through his volunteer service to his church, as a volunteer with UMCOR in Baldwin, La., and through his weekly presence serving the Green Square Meals program.
Franklin had no siblings, and is survived by his wife, Patricia, son Christopher and daughter-in-law Kate Martin (Milwaukee, Wis.), and daughters Cheryl Conner (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) and Tracy Conrad-Schumann (Madison, Wis.).
