Frank Zobac, 88, of Marion, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. A private service will be held at a later date. Memorials if desired may be directed to the family and sent in care of Cedar Memorial Funeral Home, 4200 First Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402.
Frank was born July 21, 1928, to Frank and Mary Vacek Zobac, in their home in Cedar Rapids. He was raised in Cedar Rapids and graduated from Wilson High School with the class of 1947. Following his education, he began working in the family's construction business. In 1962, he started Frank Zobac Construction Company. He continue to operate this business for the next 60-plus years before retiring.
In August 1947, Frank was united in marriage to the love of his life, Elizabeth (Betty) Sullivan, at Immaculate Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. To this union four children were born.
Frank was an easygoing, well liked man. He and Betty enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, especially California, Florida and yearly trips to Chicago. He was especially popular singing karaoke at the Red Lion and the Long Branch Supper Club and playing bingo. He was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs. Frank was also proud of his Czech heritage.
Frank's memory will continue to live on with his wife of 69 years, Betty; his four children, Susan (Dennis) Draker of Oregon, Wis., Mark (Jacqueline) Zobac of Vinton, Kathy (Doug) Klinger of Marion and Debra Zobac of Marion; seven grandchildren, Amy (Clint) Houdek, Jeff (Dianna) Draker, Barrett (Kiley) Scorpil, James (Christina) Zobac, Christopher (Krystal) Goodrow, Staci (John) Willems and Traci (Jeff) Chisholm; his 15 great-grandchildren; and his dog, "little girl," Lexi Lyn.
He was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings.
