Frank L. Machek, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully Saturday, May 13, 2017, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 16, at Czech National Cemetery. Frank was a very private, selfless person who requested there be no funeral or visitation. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids is caring for Frank and his loved ones.
Survivors include his special friends, Harry and Jane Hawley and their family.
Frank was preceded in death by his father, Leo, and mother, Teresa Machek.
Frank Leo was born Jan. 16, 1934, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Leo E. and Teresa Alice (Jindrich) Machek. He was a faithful son who cared for his invalid mother, Teresa, until her death. Per his mother's wishes, he will be making a contribution to Camp Courageous.
Frank graduated from Marion High School in 1952. He then served his country for nearly four years in the Air Force, serving from 1954 to 1957. Frank worked for 24 years at Rockwell Collins, retiring in 1989. He enjoyed working on antique cars with his good friend Harry and enjoyed going to gas engine shows. He was a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America.
Frank's loved ones would like to express their deepest thanks to the staff at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy for their genuine and loving care given to Frank.
