Frank Richard Kohl, 85, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017. Gathering of friends and family: 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug., 26, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Private family burial: Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton, at a later date.
Survivors include his sons, Steven (Sue) Kohl and Craig (Mary Bailey) Kohl; grandchildren, Derek, Gharrett, Allen, Brody and Christian; great-granddaughters, MariCatherine and Sarah; and brother-in-law, Jim Fuehrer.
Frank, also known as Clarence, Dick, Richard or Duke, was born Oct. 11, 1931, in Vinton, Iowa, to Leroy and Cleo (Hunt) Kohl. He went to work on his father's farm as a young man, learning many skills that took him through life. He married Marion Comp in 1950. A carpenter for most of his life and for many years at Knutson Construction, he always had a measuring tape in hand.
He was a friendly sort who loved fishing in his free time, especially on the Cedar River. Frank enjoyed teaching his sons and grandchildren this relaxing hobby.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marion; and sister, Ginny Feuhrer.
