Francis “Pruney” Thomas, 90, of Anamosa, died Wednesday, January 10, 2024, with his family by his side.
Francis Lloyd Thomas was born on May 27, 1933, in Anamosa, the son of Clarence and Mattie (Raymond) Thomas. He attended school in Anamosa and Fairview. He served his country in the United States Air Force. On January 26, 1968, he was united in marriage to Janet Marie Wood. The couple made their home in Olin and later moved to Anamosa. Janet died in 2019.
Francis worked in a variety of different jobs during his career. One was driving trucks, which allowed him to enjoy travelling all around the United States. He will be remembered as kind soul who loved to tell stories and jokes, which made many people smile.
Surviving him are his children Kathy (John) Beck, Becci Freeman, Terri (Terry) Hamilton, Dana Thomas, Fran (Chuck) Marsicek, Jewel Thomas, J.R. (Deb) Thomas, Jennifer (Les) Smith and Joy (Billy) Thomas, several grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Lorene Clark and Gwen Willard.
In addition to Janet, he was preceded in death by a son Gary Cline, his parents, and siblings Doris, Betty, Jim, Naone, Mary, Carl, Glen, Tommy, and Judy.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorials made be directed to the Arbor Day Foundation, the Anamosa Fire Department, the Olin Hose Company, or the Anamosa Ambulance.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Compassus Hospice and the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, for the wonderful care Francis received.
