Francis James "Jim" Ryan, 92, of Hiawatha, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2018, at Pinicon Place in Anamosa. As per Jim's request, private family services will be held at a later date. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids is handling Jim's arrangements.
Francis was born Jan. 19, 1926, in Waterloo, the son of Francis and Marie (Swift) Ryan. He graduated from high school in Waterloo. Jim served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a medic during the Battle of the Bulge. Jim was united in marriage to Lois Yarbrough on Nov. 24, 1984, in Las Vegas. He worked as a crop duster, mechanic and truck driver for many years. He enjoyed building planes, boating, riding motorcycles and working around the house.
Jim is survived by his wife, Lois; children Sherie Grant, Craig Ryan, Lisa Ryan and Erin Ryan, Jerry Clair (Marcia), Bill (Sharon) Clair, Tony (Tina) Sykora, and Mike (Beth) Sykora; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his daughter-in-law, Debbie Clair; his brother, Don Ryan; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and stepson, Steve Clair.
