Francis Gordon Huffman, 99, of Marion, died Tuesday Dec. 8, 2015. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, where a visitation will begin at noon. The Rev. Josh Hansen will officiate. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Born Oct. 26, 1916, Rossville, Iowa, the son of Lee and Gladys (Leas) Huffman. He married Oprha (Peg) Buege on April 6, 1936, in Missouri.
He is survived by daughters, Patricia Paul-Shilhanek and husband Fred of Cedar Rapids, Karen Sue Simmons and husband Dale of Central City and Judy Rae Gaulke and husband Carl of Manchester. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Orpha (Peg) in 1997; sisters, Imogen Montour, Betty Everman, Shirley Straate and Neva Mead; infant brother; brothers-in-law, Harry Straate, Leonard Serbousek, Joe Mead and Harold Everman; and son-in-law, Darwin (Clem) Paul.
Francis was a World War II veteran. He retired in 1986 after more than 40 years in the road construction business with B.L. Anderson Inc. He and Peg enjoyed many years at their cabin in Guttenberg and the winters they were able to spend in Texas. He also enjoyed going to the casino as well as his many friends at Village Ridge in Marion, where he had been a resident for the past nine years.
