Francis G. Byrn, age 86, of Conroy, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2024. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Kloster Funeral Home in Marengo. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Kloster Funeral Home in Marengo. Burial will be in the Oxford Cemetery, Oxford. Memorials may be sent in care of Francis Byrn, to Kloster Funeral Home, 298 W. Washington St., Marengo, IA 52301. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Francis, also known as “Frisky” or “Sparky” to his friends, was born May 8, 1937, in Rutledge, MO. to Grover and Marie (Kirkpatrick) Byrn. Francis married the love of his life, Darlene Schropp, on September 10, 1960, in Alburnett. Of this union, the couple had three children, Ronda Sue, Mary and Rick. Francis owned and operated a small engine repair service and later worked at the Amana Society Farms for several years, before retiring in 1991. He was also a volunteer on the Amana Fire Department from 1977 to 1990. Francis enjoyed fishing, drives out on the country roads, berry picking, cutting firewood, and having coffee with friends. He was known for waving at passerby with a cigar in hand.
Survivors include his daughter Mary (Andy Adams), of Conroy, and his son Rick (Dianne Benner) Byrn, of Williamsburg; sisters, Christine Snow and Fern Zahrt; a brother Frank Byrn; three grandchildren, Bonnie Tibai (Chris), Bradley (Lacey) Ivy, II and Danielle Byrn; a stepgrandson, Marcus Adams ;and two great-grandchildren, Misty and Lilly Adams. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, an infant daughter Ronda Sue, two sisters Mary and Daisy, three brothers Robert, Donald and Chapron. Also preceded him in death was his canine companions, Angel, Tiny and Angel II.
The family would like to thank the North English Care Center, Compass Memorial Hospital and Hospice for their wonderful care of Francis.
