Francis "Frank" Eugene Kennedy, 66, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, May 29, 2016, in his home. Celebration of Life services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 3, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Inurnment will be held in Czech National Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at Brosh Chapel.
Francis was born Sept. 18, 1949, in Clinton, the son of John and Marie (Bingham) Kennedy. He graduated from Clinton High School. Frank served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict. Frank was united in marriage to Becky Vavra on Oct. 2, 1999. He worked for over 22 years at Zimmerman Ford in the parts department, retiring in September 2015. Frank enjoyed bowling and went all over the states for national tournaments. He also enjoyed fishing with his best friends, camping with family and friends and most of all spending time with family, especially the grandchildren.
Frank is survived by his wife, Becky of Cedar Rapids; three children, Kyle (Amber) Kennedy of Camanche, Alan (Amanda) Vavra of The Hague, Netherlands, and Christina (David) Greenberg of Charles Town, W.Va.; six grandchildren, Forrest and Logan Greenberg, Amiya Hughes, Chase and Carter Kennedy, and Alexandria Vavra; two sisters, Jean (Karl) Lemke of Clinton and Mary (Levin) Lee of El Paso, Texas; sister-in-law, Lee A. Mitchell of Cedar Rapids; brother-in-law, Rickie Stroud of Cedar Rapids; as well as several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Paul and Misty Stadtmiller, Beverly Booth, Jay Coffland and Tom and Peggy Knutson.
Francis was preceded in death by his parents and an uncle, James (Elizabeth) Lind.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
