FRANCIS "JOE' DUNNWALD

Francis "Joe" Dunnwald, 86, of Waterloo, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2014, at Lakeview Landing.
He was born March 23, 1928, in Waterloo, the son of Lawrence and Irene Maguire Dunnwald. He married Dorothy Remetch on Sept. 30, 1950, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waterloo. She died Feb. 21, 2013.
Joe was employed with the Washburn Knife Company for 33 years, retiring in 1990. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War and receiving the Bronze Star.
Survivors include three daughters, Deb (Doug) Miller of Waterloo, Lynette (Greg) Miller of Grundy Center and Mary Dunnwald of Milwaukee, Wis.; four sons, Don (Gail) Dunnwald of Waverly, Mark (Donna) Dunnwald of Waterloo, Paul (Toni) Dunnwald of Des Moines and John (K'Dean) Dunnwald of Robins; 19 grandchildren, Rick (Cris), Bob (Stephanie), David, Michael and Kate Miller, Carrie and Joe (Anna) Dunnwald, Mathias (Dawn) Miller, Justin (Jamie) Miller and Allison (Ross) Hageman, Phillip Dunnwald, Danielle (Andy) Campbell, Jeffrey Dunnwald, Annastasia, Cora, Bethany and Emma Dunnwald and Jacob and Rachel Dunnwald; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Jim (Marcie) Dunnwald of Waterloo; and three sisters, Sr. Susan Dunnwald RSM of Cedar Rapids, Pat Delagardelle of Waterloo and Jane (Don) Towe of Carrollton, Texas.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Clifford Dunnwald; and a sister, Maureen Haddeman.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by Evansdale AMVETS Post 31, Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Public visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service, 400 South St., Waterloo, where there will be a 3 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary and a 6 p.m. vigil. Visitation will continue at the church for one hour before services on Monday.
