Francis J. Cejka, 88, of Fairfax, died Sunday, March 20, 2022. Service: 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church by the Rev. Dennis Conway. Burial: St. Patrick Cemetery, Fairfax. A rosary will be recited at 3:40 p.m. Wednesday at Teahen Funeral Home. Friends not attending the rosary may visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Francis is survived by his wife, Margaret; daughter, Patricia Cejka of Fairfax; sister, Louise Doskocil of Cedar Rapids; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ernest; and sister, JoAnn.
Francis was born Dec. 20, 1933, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Ernest Sr. and Anna Samek Cejka. He attended a country school near Bertram and graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1952. During this time, Francis was a member of the local chapter of the FFA. On Nov. 27, 1965, he married Margaret Stallman at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fairfax. Francis farmed his family's farm until he went and worked at Colonial Bakery in 1973 until they closed. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 909.
Francis enjoyed gardening and grew beautiful roses, making wine and doing outdoor work. He loved sharing the produce that he grew with family and friends. Francis was always willing to lend a hand and help others, especially older friends, neighbors and relatives.
Memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor's choice in memory of Francis.
