Francis Patrick Boston, 62, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Dec. 23, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, at St. Ludmila Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home,
with opening sharing of memories at 7 p.m. Private family burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Francis was born March 8, 1954, in Cedar Rapids to William Joseph and Mary Magdalene (Panek) Boston. Fran was a multi-sport star athlete at LaSalle High School in Cedar Rapids, graduating in 1972. His athletic accomplishments were many at LaSalle, and several of the records he set still stand. In 1992, he was inducted into the LaSalle High School Hall of Fame.
Francis attended, and graduated from Cornell College in 1976. On Sept. 22, 1984, he married the love of his life, Stacy Denise Vrba. Fran worked as a counselor at Kirkwood Community College for 34 years, retiring in 2011.
Fran had a great sense of humor and a quick wit. He had a big heart and was a very giving person. He was truly a compassionate, selfless, humble and loving man.
Fran enjoyed woodworking and playing golf. He played slow pitch softball for many years. He was a big fan of the Green Bay Packers, Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals.
Fran's family and friends meant everything to him, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his loving wife, Stacy Boston; six siblings, Maureen (Rick) Boots, William L. (Stacey) Boston, Diane (Gary) Novak, Marietta (Brian) Sippy, Teresa (Pat) McDonald and Benedict (Becky) Boston; father- and mother-in-law, Robert and Linda Vrba; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Boston and Laura (Dennis) Bullock; brother-in-law, Merritt Robertson; several nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces and great- nephews; as well as many special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Daniel J. Boston; sister, Elizabeth M. Robertson; cousin, David Slater; and many aunts and uncles.
