Frances M. Duwa, 93, of Riverside, passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2018, at the McCreedy Home in Washington. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 15, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside. Burial will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery. Following services at the cemetery, a luncheon will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 14, from 3 to 7 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Frances. Online condolences for the family may be sent to www.lewisfuneralhomes.com. The Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Frances' arrangements and her family.
Frances Mary O'Conner was born on May 22, 1924, in Washington County, Iowa, the daughter of William and Kathryn (Frank) O'Conner. She was a 1942 graduate of St. Mary's High School and a 1945 graduate of Marycrest College in Davenport, receiving a bachelor's degree in education. On June 4, 1946, Frances was united in marriage to Lamont John Duwa at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside. Frances taught at Riverside Elementary School for 23 years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside and VFW. Auxiliary Post 6414, and enjoyed traveling, gardening, jigsaw puzzles, sewing, reading and flowers but, most of all, spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Frances will be deeply missed by her two sons, Michael Duwa of Riverside and Thomas (Sandy) Duwa; three daughters, Mary Jo (Michael) Roberts, Kathryn (Robert) Schreiber and Carol (Robert) Sexton; son-in-law, James (Julie) Mallory; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, William (Ellen) O'Conner; and two sisters, Kathleen Hernandez and JoAnn (Ray) Laures.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lamont; one daughter, Sandra Duwa Mallory; two sisters, Mildred Denton and Verena Roscoe; and two brothers, Bernard O'Conner and Leroy O'Conner.
