FRANCES RUTH GRAHAM

Frances Ruth Graham, 95, of Johnston, formerly of West Union and Hawkeye, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at Bishop Drumm Care Center.
Frances was born to Lacy D. and Ruth J. (Henderson) Hill on Dec. 14, 1921, in rural Coggon, Iowa. She graduated from Iowa State College (Ames) in 1943 with a degree in homemaking. After teaching several years, she married John W. Graham on Dec. 20, 1947. They celebrated nearly 52 years together. She and John farmed for 35 years near Hawkeye. Frances was active in the community with church, 4-H and local history work.
She is survived by three children, John R. (Nancy) Graham of Burlington, James H. (Ruth) Graham of Cochise, Ariz., and Willona Graham (Steven) Goers of Des Moines. She is also survived by grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a baby sister, Esther; and brother, Robert R. Hill.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, at the Fayette County Historical Center in West Union. The memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 11, at Hawkeye United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Fayette County Historical Center or the Hawkeye United Methodist Church.
