Frances T. Elderkin, 101, died Friday, March 27, 2015, at Cottage Grove Place.
She is survived by her son, David A. Elderkin (Shearon) of Cedar Rapids; her granddaughter, Susan Elderkin (Jon Stier) of Seattle, Wash.; and her great-grandchildren, Aidan (9) and Aliza (6) Stier.
Her husband, David M. Elderkin, and her son, Kenton W. Elderkin, preceded her in death.
Fran was born in Newport, Ky., on Feb. 4, 1914, to William and Ruth Teeters, and grew up in St. Louis, Mo. She attended the University of Iowa, receiving a B.A. degree in 1934. After graduation she worked as a social worker until marrying David M. Elderkin on Aug. 14, 1937, at which time she moved to Cedar Rapids, where she resided for the remainder of her life.
Fran was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and PEO. She volunteered over the years at both Mercy and St. Luke's hospitals. Her hobbies ranged from bridge and mahjong to cooking and entertaining family and friends.
The greatest joy of her life was her family, and her love and guidance will be greatly missed.
