FRANCES M. (HAYNES) DENNISON
Central City
Frances M. (Haynes) Dennison, 86, of Central City, passed away peacefully in her sleep Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at Trinity Center in Des Moines following a bout of pneumonia. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. at United Church of Christ in Central City. Burial will be at Mount Clark Cemetery, Central City.
Frances was born in Sabula, Iowa, on Feb. 18, 1930, to Stephen and Eva (Babcock) Haynes. She was a 1947 graduate of Sabula High School and earned her B.A. in education from Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) in 1950, with a major in business. It was in calculus class that she met Lorren Dennison.
On Aug. 20, 1949, she married Lorren H. Dennison of Central City. They built their home near there and raised two boys and a girl. She was secretary for her husband's insurance business until he retired in 1992. They continued their tax preparation business for another 10 years.
Frances was active in the American Legion Auxiliary, United Church of Christ, and was a den mother for Boy Scout Troop 44.
She and Lorren will be remembered for their tandem bicycle, which they rode on many trips, including 16 RAGBRAIs. They also enjoyed traveling to numerous elder hostels. She helped her husband with his large garden, canning and preserving the fruits (and vegetables) of their labor. Birdwatching and the outdoors were important to her, and she enjoyed their large home library. Frances also authored several family history books. She was rarely found without a book or newspaper up to the time of her death.
Survivors include two sons, Stephen of Cedar Rapids and Russell (Mary) of Rochester, Minn.; one daughter, Erin (Tom) Hefner of Urbandale; four grandchildren; one sister, Jessie Morlan of Roundup, Mont.; and one brother, Richard "Dick" (Nancy) Haynes of Sabula.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one sister and one brother.
She and her beloved husband, Lorren, are finally together again.
Memorials may be made to United Church of Christ in Central City or Krabbenhof Library in Sabula.
