Frances E." Francie" Cohn, 94, of Rancho Mirage, Calif., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, July 10, 2014, at Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage. Services: 10 a.m. Sunday at Temple Judah. Rabbi Todd Thalblum will officiate. Burial: Eben Israel Cemetery.
Survivors include a brother, Gary (Loretta) Rabiner of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Boca Raton, Fla.; a sister, Norma (Robert) Segal of Minneapolis and Arizona; many nieces and nephews who adored Francie, including a special and devoted niece, Carolyn Rabiner of New York.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel; and a brother, Al Rabiner.
Francie was born Oct. 18, 1919, in Fort Dodge, the daughter of Samuel and Daisy Lumelsky Rabiner. She married Samuel Cohn on Nov. 30, 1941, in Cedar Rapids. Sam passed away in 1995.
"Francie was an ambassador of the Cohn dynasty, which had a major footprint in philanthropy and community leadership in Cedar Rapids, such as Mercy Medical Center, St. Luke's Hospital, Temple Judah, Linn County Cancer Society, Coe College and the University of Iowa Alumni Association, as well as the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston."
The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Robert Dluhy of Boston, Dr. Joel Hirschberg of Palm Springs, Dr. Robert Silber of Cedar Rapids and her devoted caregivers, Natalie and Helen, for the wonderful and loving care given to Francie.
