Frances "Fran" A. Richardson, 94, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2016, at Cottage Grove Place, Cedar Rapids. Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, May 7, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 6, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Private burial at Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
She is survived by her children, Linda (Sam) Simonetta of Loveland, Colo., and Robert (Pam) Richardson of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Richardson of Sioux Falls, S.D.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley G. Richardson in December 2006; sons, David Allen Richardson in November 1995, and William "Bill" Roy Richardson in May 2001; and sister, Anita "Neetz" (Jim) Drake in 2001.
Fran was born on March 5, 1922, in Sydney, Australia, to Frank and Marie (Krueger) Raes. Her father worked for the General Motors Corp. in Asia and Australia. The family returned to the United States in 1931 to settle in Ann Arbor, Mich. Fran graduated in 1939 from Ann Arbor High School and later from Hamilton Business College. She also attended the University of Michigan. Fran worked for the Ann Arbor Board of Education and then the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Fran married Stanley G. Richardson on Oct. 25, 1946, in Ann Arbor. In 1956, they moved to Cedar Rapids when Stan joined Acme Greeting Card Company (now Acme Graphics). The couple purchased the firm in 1988.
Fran was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church since 1956, and Chapter LU of P.E.O. since 1976. She enjoyed playing bridge, needlework, sewing projects and reading.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, or contributions could be given in her memory to Chapter LU of P.E.O.
The family would like to thank the Cottage Grove Place staff and UnityPoint Hospice for the wonderful care of their mother.
