Fox, Mary 'Betty' Elizabeth
Mary “Betty” Elizabeth Fox, 86, of 725 Southlawn Terrace, died May 29, 2013, at the Oelwein Healthcare Center. Services: 11 a.m. Monday, June 3, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Fayette. Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, rural Westgate. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 2, at Geilenfeld Funeral Home in Oelwein, where there will be a rosary at 4 p.m. and Scripture service at 7 p.m.
Born Nov. 9, 1926, in Delaware County, Iowa, a daughter of John and Sadie (Burke) Woods, she graduated from Randalia High School in 1945. Betty married Sheldon Fox on Nov. 29, 1945, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Fayette. She was a homemaker and farm wife.
Betty enjoyed gardening, cooking, fishing and playing cards.
Survivors include her husband, Sheldon of Oelwein; four daughters, Pat (Veryl) Burghardt of Sumner, Peg (Keith) Schlatter of Hawkeye, Becky Fox of Cedar Rapids and Bobbie Fox of Cedar Falls; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Henry of Fayette; and three brothers, Tom Woods of Oelwein, Jim Woods of Cedar Rapids and Leo Woods of Dyersville.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Woods; a great-granddaughter, Sadie Smith; two brothers, Don Woods and Paul Woods; and her parents, John and Sadie.
A memorial fund has been established in Betty's name.
