Fowler-Roorda, Gena Kathleen

Gena Kathleen Fowler-Roorda, 52, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, after a long battle with cancer on Tuesday, April 3, 2012. Funeral Service: 2 p.m. Saturday, April 7, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Deacon Jim Berger. The family will greet friends from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Doug Roorda; three children, Gretchen (Greg) Hollingsworth of Marion, Sean Roorda of New Hampton and Brennan Roorda of Lowden; two grandchildren, Grant and Graeme; her father, Joe Fowler; a brother, Mark Fowler (Patricia) of California; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother.

Gena was born Oct. 30, 1959, the daughter of Joe and Mary Jane (Witty) Fowler in Denver, Colo. On June 11, 1981, she married Doug Roorda in Knoxville, Iowa.

Gena enjoyed knitting and quilting. She loved her children and grandchildren. Gena was a nurse for 30 years and enjoyed taking care of other people. She enjoyed trips to Lake Superior.
