Anamosa

Forrest "Frosty" Glenn Smith of Anamosa passed away at 1:25 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2019. He was born in Muscatine on March 22, 1936, the son of Glenn P. and Josephine M. Smith. Forrest graduated from West Liberty High School in 1954 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, retiring after 20 years as senior chief petty officer. He served on six ships. They were homeported on the West Coast, as well as two years at Great Lakes, two years at Sasebo, Japan, and three and 1/2 years recruiting in Minnesota. His shipboard duties mainly were in the engine rooms.

During the Vietnam War, he served four years on an ammunition ship, delivering munitions to ships off the coast of Vietnam. He married his first wife in 1961 while at Great Lakes. They had two sons and a daughter, divorcing in 1979. He moved to Anamosa, Iowa, to take a job at the men's reformatory. In 1989, Frosty married Betty. They enjoyed traveling the countryside on a Gold Wing motorcycle. In June 2010, she passed and he parked the motorcycle. He was a life member of the VFW and NRA.

He is survived by his sons, Gene (Carlene) of Albany Ore., and Mark (Dana); and daughters, Janet of Evanston, Sheila (Chad) Machart of Anamosa; and grandchildren, Mckenzie, David and Lilly Machart.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara (Betty); a brother, Keith; and a sister, Bonny Rae.

Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 23, at St. Patrick's Church in Anamosa. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetry following a Celebration of Life.
