Folken, Edward J.
Edward J. Folken, 92, of Anamosa, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids after a short illness. A Celebration of Life service will be held 7 p.m. Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Anamosa, where there will be a visitation from 5:30 p.m. until service time. Iowa Cremation is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Rosemary; four sons, Denny (Lisa) of Monticello, Don (Judy) of Dubuque, Gary of Monticello and Dave (Choi) of Indian Trail, N.C.; a daughter, Vicki Wacker of Anamosa; and two sisters, Deloris Ihlenfelt and Marilyn Schmidt, and one brother, Louis (Beulah), all of Anamosa. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Cade, Paige, Kyle, Cole, Andrew, Jessie, Joey (Heather), John, Ed, Kelly (Jeremiah) and Kris (Brittany); and seven great-grandchildren, Natilie, Jeremy, J.D., Hailey, John John, Jack and Kate.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Henry and Don.
Ed was born Jan. 24, 1920, in Jones County, the son of John and Margaret Albers Folken. He married Rosemary L. Newhard on Aug. 30, 1955, in Vilmar, Iowa. Ed farmed in the Jones County area and worked at Century Engineering as a welder, retiring after 15 years of service in 1985.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Anamosa, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union, and proudly served in the Navy during World War II.
He enjoyed camping, fishing, travel and especially the time he spent with his friends and beloved family.
He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial fund has been established.
