Fogarty (nee Hyke), Margaret C. 'Grandma Maggie'

Margaret C. “Grandma Maggie” Fogarty (nee Hyke), 93, a resident of Naperville, Ill., since 2000, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, at Tabor Hills Healthcare Facility in Naperville. She was born Nov. 27, 1918, in Lourdes, Iowa.

She was the beloved wife of the late Paul J. Fogarty; loving mother of Sharon M. (the late Gene) Drendel of Naperville, Ill., Dr. Gerald (Beth) Fogarty of Dallas, Texas, Madonna (Donald) Schmitt of Columbia, Conn., Pauline (James) Ross of Delray Beach, Fla., Karen (Jon) Monserud of Nederland, Colo., and the late James (Mary K.) Fogarty and the late Patricia (Thomas) Kozel; adored grandmother of Colleen Cooper, Michelle Clark and Sheila Foster, Theresa “Terri” Drendel, Joseph Drendel, Douglas Drendel, Andrea Coates and Sean Drendel, John, David and Barbra Fogarty, Debra Came and Kelly Zindel, Mathew Schmitt, Molly Grabowski, Jared and Benjamin Schmitt, Scott, Robert and Patrick Kozel, Jennifer, Nils, Jon and Johannah Monserud; adored great-grandmother of 47; devoted daughter of the late Adolph and Millie (nee Marik) Hyke; dear sister of Everista (the late William) Williams of Cedar Rapids, Virginia (the late Richard) Nehl of Waterloo, Mary Ann (Boyd) Bollman of Cresco, and the late John (Goldie) Hyke, Tom (Gene) Hyke, Jim (Arlene) Hyke, Ray Hyke, and Betty Hyke; and fond aunt of many.

Margaret grew up on her family farm in Lourdes, Iowa, attended Lourdes High School, married her husband, Paul, and moved to Cedar Rapids in 1940.

She retired from Sears, Roebuck & Co., Cedar Rapids, after over 25 years of service. Margaret was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids and was a current member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Naperville. She also volunteered at Tabor Hills Healthcare Facility and Brookdale School, both in Naperville. Margaret enjoyed sewing, crocheting and reading.

Memorial visitation: 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1500 Brookdale Rd., Naperville, Ill. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church.

Family and friends will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids for graveside services.
