Fluckinger, Dewain N.
Dewain N. Fluckiger, 84, of Marion, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, at Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. Visitation will be from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Donna; his son, Dan (Julie Ehresmann) Fluckiger of Stratford; his daughter, Jill (Jeff) Hopkins of Bettendorf; son-in-law, John Niles of Center Point; five grandchildren, Kelsey Niles, Lindsey Niles, Paige Hopkins, Spencer Fluckiger, and Carter Fluckiger; two sisters, Althea (Dale) Hein of Elkader and Janet (Don) Monk of Monticello; and a stepbrother, David Conley of Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Harold Conley; and his daughter, Michelle Niles.
Dewain was born Aug. 26, 1929, the son of John and Edna (Schneider) Fluckiger in Pontiac, Mich. He attended Monticello schools. Dewain married Donna Doyle on June 26, 1954. He served in Korea with the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. Dewain was employed at Farmstead Foods in Cedar Rapids for 39 years, retiring in 1990.
Dewain was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, VFW, American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion and P-3 Retirees. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's events, fishing and playing cards. He will be missed.
